Needing Help
When she had no place else to turn for help,
Sue Sloan called the local newspaper. Left
by her unemployed husband, with no food
and no money, her youngest child was
diagnosed with a serious heart defect. This
photograph, along with a story about how
people can "fall through the cracks"
despite community welfare organizations,
brought out local support. The next day
the child was admitted to a Shriner's
hospital in Ohio.
