The Old Guard
Although they look barely out of their teens, the soldiers
who make up the official ceremonial unit that maintains
Arlington National Cemetery are members of the oldest
active-duty infantry unit in the Army, serving the
country since 1784. Along with Arlington, The Old
Guard has orders to protect Washington, DC, in times
of national emergency and is the official honor guard
to the President. Taking part in sixteen ceremonies each
day, year round, The Old Guard is the only U.S. military
unit that marches with fixed bayonets at all times.
