Praying For A Miracle
As the legend goes, La Senorita Amelia Goyri
and her infant son died in 1901 and were
buried side by side in one casket in the huge
Cemetery Colon in western Havana. When the
grave was opened, the baby was not at the
mother's side but was held in her arms. The
Catholic Church called it a miracle and even
spoke of a virgin birth. Now, the grave is
visited constantly by those seeking miracles.
Many, it is said, pray to leave Cuba for new
lives. Fidel Castro's Cuba, thirty years after
the Revolution, is filled with people who
still hope and pray for that miracle.
