Great photography is all about people, and using pictures to tell the story of their lives and their special events. My name is Donald R. Winslow. I'm a photojournalist with more than twenty-five years as a professional newspaper and wire service photographer and editor, photographing people, places, and stories around the world.

One of the great pleasures of photography is capturing the essence of a person and a story. A wedding is nothing less than a great family story, and that's the way I like to cover it, as if it were an essay destined for a classic photography magazine. I've learned my visual story-telling skills with cameras as a photojournalist for Reuters in Washington, DC, covering the White House and Capitol Hill and major league sports, and at The Palm Beach Post, The Pittsburgh Press, The Milwaukee Journal Co., and at two small newspapers in Indiana - The Republic, and the Wabash Plain Dealer.

My experience includes both digital and film photography, editorial and corporate work, in print and online, magazine and book assignments, and freelance and staff work. Every opportunity to apply photography to story-telling and to capturing personalities is a welcome one, and I'm available for assignments of all types.

The photograph of me in the water was taken while I was on assignment for the book "A Day In The Life Of The U.S. Armed Forces" for HarperCollins Publishers, as I covered U.S. Navy recruits in the drill "Abandon Ship" at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois. The photograph in surgery was taken in Bucharest, Romania, while on a humanitarian mission with volunteers doing pediatric heart surgery on Romanian babies.
